Multi-user databases are split into two parts.  The first part contains only the data and is located on a server to which all users have network access.  The second part is the application database, located on the user's desktop computer.  The user opens and uses the application database to work with the data.  This split design provides the best performance for multi-user databases.

The desktop database application is automatically updated
when opened, if there is an update on the server.

Version control is used with administrator
access to version/update history.
